Athens Pride & Queer Collective Names First Executive Director

Athens, GA — Athens Pride and Queer Collective (APQC) is thrilled to announce the hiring of its first-ever Executive Director, Elliot Williamson, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s growth and commitment to inclusive, community-rooted leadership in Athens and Northeast Georgia.

Williamson, a First Honor Graduate and Foundation Fellow from the University of Georgia, brings an extraordinary blend of academic excellence, global experience, and nonprofit advocacy to his new role. With degrees in Spanish, Economics and International Business, and work experience with the Metro Atlanta Chamber, he represents a new generation of dynamic, mission-driven leaders committed to equality for queer Athenians from all walks of life.

“Elliot’s track record of managing complex projects, social engagement, and event organizing will help propel the organization to new heights,” said APQC President Becky Loccisano. “His leadership and experience in community building, coupled with his active involvement with other local organizations, will help APQC broaden its reach and impact in Athens, especially in historically underserved communities.” 

Williamson’s multilingual background and his passion for fostering community uniquely position him to lead APQC into its next chapter. “I’m honored to join Athens Pride and Queer Collective at such a pivotal time in history,” said Williamson. “Growing up in Athens, I was fortunate to come of age in an environment free from shame or prejudice. That experience instilled in me a profound commitment to advocacy, education, and celebration — principles that will drive my work at APQC.” 

The hiring of Williamson is a major step forward in APQC’s ongoing mission to further equality and acceptance for all LGBTQ+ individuals across Athens and the broader Northeast Georgia region.
