Local Partners Team Up to Provide Rescue Dogs a Second Chance During Upcoming Broadway Show in The Classic Center Theatre

ATHENS, GA – February 27, 2025— The sun will come out for both patrons and local rescue dogs thanks to a special partnership between The Classic Center Theatre and Athenspets. During the Broadway performance of Annie on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at The Classic Center Theatre, Athens rescue dogs will have a chance to find their forever homes.

For decades, Annie has inspired audiences with its tale of hope, resilience, and the unbreakable bond between Annie and her loyal dog, Sandy. This year’s tour stars Kevin, a seven-year-old rescue Labradoodle from Georgia, whose charming portrayal of Sandy is winning hearts across the nation.

In the spirit of Annie’s iconic dog, Sandy, this partnership aims to shine a spotlight on adoptable pets in Athens and adoptable pets encourage local adoptions.

· The role of Sandy has long been played by a rescue dog, continuing a tradition that began with the original 1977 Annie Broadway production.

· Alongside the Annie tour stop, Athenspets will be at The Classic Center Theatre on Tuesday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. to provide information, answer questions, and inspire patrons to consider adopting a local rescue pet.

· Athenspets is a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer organization focused on supporting animals in Athens, GA, by offering medical care, adoption services, and outreach programs to improve the lives of animals in need.
