Athens, GA., October 21, 2026 – St. Mary’s Medical Group is proud to announce that Brian Burke, DO, has joined St. Mary’s Orthopedic Specialists (SMOS), effective Sept. 28. Dr. Burke is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who comes to St. Mary’s from Winn Army Community Hospital in Ft. Stewart, Ga., where he has practiced as a staff orthopedic surgeon since 2022.

Dr. Burke received his bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from the University of South Florida in Tampa. After earning a master’s degree in medical sciences, also from the University of South Florida, he earned his doctor’s degree in osteopathic medicine from Lake Erie College of Medicine in Bradenton, Fla.

He went on to complete an orthopedic surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Ft. Gordon, Ga., near Augusta. While there, he served as the Chief Resident for orthopedic surgery and received the Georgia Orthopaedic Society’s Resident Award, First Place. He has also been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.

In addition to his practice at Winn Army Community Hospital, Dr. Burke also served as a staff orthopedic surgeon at Liberty Regional Medical Center, Hinesville, Ga.; Memorial Health University Medical Center, Savannah, Ga., and, as a locum tenens at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, Statesboro, Ga. Dr. Burke also completed Basic Officer Leadership Training at San Antonio Military Medical Center

St. Mary’s Orthopedic Specialists is located at 658 N. Chase St., Suite 201, Athens. Dr. Burke joins Dr. David Woodbury and practice founder Dr. Randy Lavender, Jr., all of whom are accepting new patients. As part of St. Mary’s Medical Group, SMOS accepts most major
