About Us: Founded in 1967, the Athens Community Council on Aging is a private, nonprofit organization that provides a wide range of services to older adults and adults with disabilities across 67 counties of Georgia. Position Overview: The Director of the Center for Active Living (CAL) is responsible for overseeing a comprehensive range of programs that promote the health, wellness, and social engagement of older adults. This role involves managing fitness classes, wellness programs, art activities, social events, and an extensive trip program for active seniors. In addition, the Director is responsible for overseeing a community dining/wellness program for at-risk seniors. This position plays a pivotal role in the long-term sustainability and growth of CAL by identifying opportunities for program expansion, partnership development, and financial sustainability. The Director will collaborate with the ACCA Leadership Team to ensure CAL remains a vibrant and vital community resource.
Essential Responsibilities:
Hospitality & Participant Experience:
- Uphold and promote outstanding hospitality standards, ensuring participants feel welcomed, valued, and cared for in all interactions and activities.
- Plan and execute wellness/recreational activities, including ongoing classes and workshops, special events, and group outings, that foster community and create meaningful social connections among participants.
- Organize and lead engaging travel experiences for active older adults, ranging from local day trips to regional and international excursions, ensuring seamless logistics and participant satisfaction.
- Foster a culture of inclusivity and belonging within the center, ensuring that all participants feel encouraged to engage in programs tailored to their interests and abilities.
- Collaborate with community organizations, local businesses, and healthcare providers to enhance services and create innovative partnerships.
- Continuously evaluate and expand recreational opportunities to align with the diverse interests and activity levels of older adults, incorporating feedback from participants.
- Ensure that all activities, trips, and events prioritize participant safety, comfort, and accessibility.
- Recruit, train, and supervise staff, volunteers, and interns, fostering a positive, supportive work environment.
- Provide leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality programming and excellent customer service.
- Manage the annual budget for CAL, ensuring the financial viability of all programs and services.
- Participate in fundraising, and sponsorship efforts to support program expansion and sustainability.
- Monitor financial performance, adjusting strategies to ensure program profitability without compromising quality.
- Maintain accurate records for program participants, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
- Track program data and deliverables, preparing reports as needed for the agency or funders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies, Hospitality/Tourism, Event Planning, Community Health Education, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a community, recreation, or business setting.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and program development skills.
- Experience in budget management and business development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients, volunteers, and community partners.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends as needed.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License and the ability to travel.
