Join us at the Historic Athens Welcome Center on Tuesday, November 17 from 4:00-6:00 PM for a meet and greet with author Mark Clegg! Mark Clegg's book "The Crimson and Gold: Football and Integration in Athens, Georgia" is a comprehensive narrative detailing the struggle for integration in Athens in the context of highly competitive football as experienced by athletes, their fellow students, teachers, journalists, and school administrators at the segregated schools Athens High School (white) and Burney-Harris High School (black) which merged to form Clarke Central High School. Clegg's "Crimson and Gold" earned the Award for Excellence in Local History Advocacy given by the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council in 2025 and a Publications and Programs Award given by Historic Athens in 2026.
