From its origins in the Academic Building, this newspaper has boosted school spirit, promoted athletic programs, and covered cultural activities for the University's students. Initially serving as the official organ of the Athletic Council, The Red & Black transitioned to a laboratory for the School of Journalism and later became an independent, student-run publication in 1980.
