J.Tom Morgan, former District Attorney of DeKalb County and UGA graduate (BBA '77 and JD '80), will discuss his new book, A Rainy Night in Georgia, which will be released by Prometheus/Simon & Schuster on September 15. This book is about the shocking assassination of Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown in his driveway just days before he was to take office and J.Tom's prosecution of the case. The book is part true-crime thriller, part courtroom story, part memoir, and a reflection on the risks and responsibilities of pursuing justice when the stakes are everything. The themes in the story remain relevant today. Norm Eisen, CNN legal analyst, described it as “a gripping account of corruption and accountability….A modern-day To Kill a Mockingbird.” Paul Kurtz, Associate Dean and Hosch Professor Emeritus (and J.Tom's former law professor) will be the conversation partner. Ghost Apothecary will be on hand to sell copies of the book for signing.
