DESCRIPTION:The Historic Athens Welcome Center's newest exhibit\, "Dear Friend: We've Done It\," celebrates the rescue and restoration of our beloved Church-Waddel-Brumby House\, believed to be Athens' oldest original residence. Learn about the preservationists who formed Historic Athens (formerly the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation) in 1967\, the scientific process used to determine our interior paint colors\, and the artisans who created our custom wallpapers\, floor coverings\, and hand-painted false wood finishes. At the opening reception on Friday\, May 1\, from 4:00-6:00 PM\, guests will have the opportunity to view documents\, photos\, and news clippings that are typically kept in storage. Guests may enjoy light refreshments and tour the house and grounds. Deputy Director and exhibit curator\, Caitlin Short\, will be present to answer questions and offer further insight. During the reception\, guests will be able to view documents\, photos\, news clippings and other items related to the house's restoration that are typically kept in storage. All items in the gift shop will be 20% off for reception guests including local history books\, Athens-themed souvenirs\, and children's items\, and more. Location: 280 E.
