Clark County School District: Latest Public Update on West Broad School Complex Next Week

Athens, Georgia — The Clarke County School District invites the community to a second round of public update sessions on the district’s plans for the historic West Broad School complex.

Sessions are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Vernon Payne Meeting Hall
at the District Office, 595 Prince Ave., Athens. Both sessions will cover the same material and are open to the public. They will also be livestreamed on the CCSD YouTube channel.

In December 2025, CCSD announced and held two public sessions on the district’s vision for future use of the West Broad School complex, including rehabilitation of the buildings and additional classrooms and instructional space.

The district has proposed expanding academic programming offered to CCSD high school students through the Athens Community Career Academy, which would include the creation of a new construction career pathway. A “heritage room” honoring local educational history has also been proposed, along with additional multi-purpose meeting rooms, community greenspace, and other historical markers.

During the Feb. 19 sessions, Interim Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Scott will share the following:

● Results from the recent community input survey on the future of the complex
● Key findings from the structural analysis report conducted for the Campbell Lane building, which was shared with the Clarke County Board of Education at its meeting on Jan. 15, 2026
● The formation of a building committee and future building planning session
● Other next steps in the process.

With the West Broad School complex revitalization, the district seeks to honor local history, welcome the Athens-Clarke County community, and create new educational journeys for students. The district will continue to post regular updates on this project, as they become available, at www.clarke.k12.ga.us/westbroadschool.
